Review: Creating a Masterpiece

I’m a frustrated artist-wannabe, so when the opportunity to review the Monthly Plan of Creating a Masterpiece came up, I begged for a slot. Shamelessly. Creating a Masterpiece is an online art curriculum taught by artist and art teacher Sharon Hofer. Through video instruction, she guides students, step-by-step, through art projects from Beginner Level to Level 5. She demands excellence from each project, in that each is meant to be a ‘masterpiece’ and not just some arts and crafts project.

Review: Circle C Stepping Stones Books

I initially thought that we wouldn’t be able to do the review on Susan K. Marlow’s newest Andi book series, Circle C Stepping Stones. More than a month after Kregel Publications mailed us the books, we still hadn’t received them. I usually don’t have problems receiving book packages from the U.S.; most of our homeschool […]

The Bed

Breeze had been praying for a bed for nearly a year. Every night, a bed of her own was always on the list of things that she prayed for. Ever since she outgrew her crib (at 10 months, I think), Breeze and Raine have been sharing the day bed. It actually isn’t that bad—the three […]

Review: Creative Freewriting Adventure

This Creative Freewriting Adventure exercise is a no-judgement one—the technical stuff like spelling and punctuation are not corrected. This is meant to be a fun, free-flowing exercise to help release creativity and, I suppose, ‘prime the pump’ for writing.

Beep, Beep the Lab Jeep!

We were supposed to design a light-up card using the supplied LED lights, batteries, and copper tape. Raine and I, naturally, thought of the card design first. Raine drew her UFO with the copy “You are out of this world!”, and then we stuck in the LED lights through the card to light up the alien ship. “So where’s your circuit?” asked The Hubby. Apparently, all the other teams started with the circuit design. That had us flummoxed. Our aesthetically pleasing card did not have a circuit-friendly design.

Review: Eclectic Foundations Language Arts Level C

Our current Language Arts program isn’t working as well as I’ve hoped, so I was intrigued by Eclectic Foundations.  So far, they have three levels of Language Arts programs (we picked Language Arts Level C – more on that later), with a fourth one coming out in April this year. What it is (and who […]

Mathematize Your Home: Shopping Math

I’ve always maintained that shopping and making change are the most useful (and sneakiest) ways of practicing Math skills.   On a recent trip to Monterey, our local meat shop, we had a few challenges other than what to have for dinner. For example, lean ground pork costs P205 a kilo, while regular ground […]
